Winter Activities in Marbella

Our Top Winter Fun Activities in Marbella

Got the winter blues? Let us bring a little of the Spanish sunshine into your day and lift your spirits with our favourite winter activities here on the Costa del Sol! Read on for inspiration, and come and see us for a little R&R and try it out for yourself.

We’re excited to see the start of a brand new season in Marbella, as there are so many great things to do here and our winter weather is normally fantastic! This October we had temperatures in the 30s and for the last few years it’s been in the mid-20s in November, so the Costa del Sol really is a great winter sun destination and there’s so much to do.

We could have made a list as long as our arm, but we decided to keep it to the very best bits. We hope you like our ideas, feel free to comment and add your own suggestions!

  • Skiing

Skiing, I hear you ask….., in Marbella??? Well, not exactly in Marbella, but you can ski in the Sierra Nevada near Granada, just 2 hours’ drive from our hotel’s door. As it’s so close and such an easy drive, many people just pop up to the slopes for the day. One of the coolest things is to be able to wake up to the stunning sunrise over the beaches of the Costa del Sol, jump in the car and be fastening your boots and clicking on your skis by 10am – it’s quite a surreal experience. If you fancy a few vino calientes (mulled wines) to warm the cockles or just generally don’t want to worry about the drive, there are a few companies who do day trips on a coach up to the mountains from Marbella. Ask us for details.

  • Exploring the Campo

The “campo” is the beautiful Spanish countryside which we’re lucky enough to have right on our doorstep. During the summer the weather is too hot and everything is too dry to really enjoy exploring, but during autumn and winter it’s fantastic. You can just grab a bottle of water and go on a hike from the hotel, but if you have a taste for adventure then we’d suggest trying Quad Biking or Pony trekking, the trails are amazing and it’s a lot of fun. One of our favourite activities is canyoning just down the road in Benahavis where you hike, climb, swim and scramble through gorges and ravines – it’s amazing! We’re adrenaline junkies here at the hotel, if you are too, here’s a whole page of adventure activities in Marbella to choose from.

  • Sport

No sane person tries to do sports in summer – that’s the time to lounge on the beach, but the autumn and winter are the best times to try out some of the world-class sports facilities on the Costa del Sol. There are so many options for sports here in the warm winter sunshine. Golfers will love the range of courses within easy reach of the hotel; it’s easy to try a number of courses even in a short break. The hotel is very popular with golfers, so we’ve created a seven day golf & relax package, where you can stay in our lovely boutique hotel and play some of the best courses nearby.

If water sports are more your thing, then paddle boarding is all the rage right now and perfect on a still day. If the wind is picking up, then head down to Tarifa for the day and try windsurfing or kite surfing in this very cool surfers’ paradise. There are also some excellent tennis and padel tennis clubs which do short courses such as the one run by Wimbledon Champion Manolo Santa, in Marbella.

  • Three Kings 6th January

Christmas is a lovely time to visit Spain and we’ve got loads of exciting plans for Christmas at the Urban Villa. But if you need to be with family at Christmas, and are you’re looking for a traditional winter celebration, then you should stay for Three Kings, the time when the Kings bring presents for the children. This is much more significant than Christmas itself and there are fabulous parades through the streets. The most famous are in Malaga, and this is a great excuse to go and see their legendary Christmas lights too, but we have it in Marbella and even the white villages do their own little version. It’s a lovely tradition where all the families take to the streets, strolling down the paseo before finding their place to watch the parade and then heading into the Old Town to eat and you will see Marbella in a totally different light.

If you like the sound of any of these great winter activities, come and stay with us and explore what Marbella and the Costa del Sol has to offer over the winter. Our cozy boutique hotel has a roaring fire and warm rooms, as well as terraces with spectacular views, so it’s a great choice for a winter getaway. Check availability and book here
