West Of Marbella
The surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing mecca is 1 hour 15 minutes drive away. The old town is buzzing with plenty of tapas bars in the narrow cobbled streets while the beautiful white sand beaches are filled with water sports enthusiasts. Lots of places to chill out and people watch. As well as windsurfing and kitesurfing there is diving, whale and dolphin watching and you can even take a ferry over to Morocco for the day.
One hour’s drive away, the rock of Gibraltar is perhaps best known for its monkeys, but it also has an interesting history, tunnels and caves to visit, although the town itself is not very aesthetic. Guided tours are recommended.
Castellar de la Frontera
A historic village perched on a hill and built within the castle walls, the in habitants were relocated to the ‘new’ village of Castellar not so long ago. Much of the old village is now being renovated by artists and creative types, and a number of the traditional village houses are available for rent. There are wonderful views over the reservoir from here and a small zoo in the new village.
The seaside resort of Estepona has a pleasant port area and promenade and a good beach. One of the original resorts on the Costa del Sol, Estepona still retains its original charm.
A gastronomic village in the mountains, Benahavis has the highest concentration of quality restaurants in the region and draws foodies by the thousands. A picturesque historic village, there are also a number of art galleries to visit and seven golf courses in the environs.
Just 25 minutes away it is a lovely place to spend an evening. We recommend Amanhavis restaurant and El Castillo.
Something of a playground for the rich and famous, this stylish marina boasts good restaurants and chic boutiques in addition to hundreds of impressive boats. A great spot for people watching over a coffee or ice cream.
East of Marbella
Seven km inland from Mijas costa, Mijas Pueblo is a traditional Andalucian ‘pueblo blanco’ with narrow cobbled streets, donkey taxis and shops selling local pottery and paintings.
A medieval town in the hills to the north of Malaga, overlooked by a Moorish fortress or Alcazaba. It is located in a fertile river valley, with olive groves and fields of sunflowers, and has great climbing and walking attractions nearby. The town also has one of the richest archaeological legacies in Andalucia, with Bronze Age and Roman ruins ranking among the most important in Spain, and there’s also El Torcal park and the flamingo-filled Pink Lagoon, making it heaven for both history and nature lovers.
West of Alora is Malaga’s “Lake District”: three tranquil artificial lakes with shimmering turquoise water are bordered by pine forests. The lakes were created when a 200 m. high dam was built across the Guadalhorce river gorge, known as the Garganta del Chorro. A great place to fish, swim, picnic and rock climb and a world away from the beaches at the coast. We can organize for you to cross the legendary “Caminito del Rey” which has recently reopened to visitors and is being hailed as one of the most exciting adventure tourism activities around.
El Torcal Park Nature Reserve is known for it’s unusual limestone rock formations. Located about 30 km north of Málaga city in the direction of Antequera near the village of Villanueva de la Concepción, within El Torcal Park’s 17 square km are some of the most beautiful and impressive limestone landscapes in Europe.
